Roche Ireland Limited Energy Policy

Roche Ireland Ltd. manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients at its plant in Clarecastle. 

As a significant energy user, Roche is conscious of the impact that energy usage has on the wider environment and is committed to minimising the impact that its operations can have in this regard. 

Roche is committed to sustainability and will provide sufficient information and resources to ensure that an energy efficient culture is promoted and developed that will enable it’s objectives and targets to be achieved.

  

 

It is the policy of Roche Ireland to ensure that the efficient use of energy within its site is given a high priority and it will be guided by its social and environmental commitment as well as regulatory and financial requirements. Roche is committed to a process of continuous improvement in all aspects of energy management.

Energy consumption throughout the site will be managed to ensure that both cost and environmental impact are minimised and where it is shown that sustainable cost effective alternative sources of energy can be utilised without impact on our operations this will be followed through to implementation. The scope and boundaries of this Policy are limited to  Electricity, Fossil Fuels and water.

The commitment of Roche is indicated by its accreditation to IS EN 16001: 2009 (The European Energy Management Standard) and also its own corporate directive (K18) on energy usage within the wider Roche network of companies.

Roche Ireland will ensure that this energy policy is communicated to and available to all employees and the general public. 

This policy document is an integral part of the policy framework of Roche Ireland Ltd. and compliance is the responsibility of all employees.

Policy implementation shall be achieved in the following ways:

  • An energy efficiency programme will be developed with clear roles and responsibilities so that its aims can be attained and verified.
  • Energy reduction opportunities will be identified throughout the organisation.
  • Energy conservation opportunities will be implemented that provide for a viable economic return on investment without impact on product or personnel safety or plant reliability.
  • All new installations and structures will be adequately challenged from an energy efficiency perspective to ensure that life-cycle cost is considered during the design phase.
  • Energy will be procured in environmentally friendly forms where it can be financially justified.
  • Suitable training modules for all personnel will be developed to ensure that the wider energy impact of all individuals is assessed and understood by all employees.
  • Employees will be encouraged to adopt a wider social conscience to ensure that the total carbon footprint of Roche Ireland Ltd and all its employees is minimised.
  • A commitment to comply with all applicable requirements relating to it’s energy aspects whether legally required or agreed by the organisation.
